European Markets ended lower on Monday as commodity drag.FTSE 100 index ended down 0.6 percent down 26.59 points to 4435.5,Germany's DAX closed down 0.96 percent down 46.99 points to 4866.91,France's CAC 40 down 1.93 percent down 63.92 points to 3248.67.
Banking shares closed lower with HSBC Holdings down 4.7 percent.Standard Chartered down 6.8 percent,Royal Bank of Scotland down 2.7 percent.Commodities shares closed lower.As crude prices fell below $58 a barrel,major oil stocks closed lower.BP , Royal Dutch Shell ended lower.
On Monday,Dow Jones industrial average lost 155.88 points, down 1.8 percent, to 8,418.77. The broad Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 19.99 points, down 2.2 percent, to 909.24. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 7.76 points,down 0.45 percent, to 1731.24.
Asian Markets ended mixed on Monday.Japan's Nikkei average closed higher 0.2 percent.Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was down 1.7 percent.
U.S. light crude oil for June delivery closed lower to settle at $58.50 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.COMEX gold for June delivery was down $1.40 to settle at $913.50 an ounce.Dollar gained versus the euro and was down against the yen.
