Asian Markets Decline on Growth Concerns

Asian stock markets fell sharply on Monday with China's Shanghai Composite plunging nearly 6 percent amid worries about U.S. consumer spending and a possible tightening of bank lending policies.Shanghai's benchmark plunged 5.8 percent to 2,870.63.Nikkei was down 328 points to 10,268,its biggest single day fall in five months.Exporters were hit most as the yen rose against the dollar.Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 3.6 percent to 20,137.65.South Korea's Kospi was down 2.8 percent to 1,565.49.India's Sensex was down 4 percent.Metals and energy stocks were hit hardest.Oil prices continued to fall sharply,Crude for September delivery was down $2.03 to $65.48 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
